Mold is an incredibly common problem in homes and apartments. While not always dangerous, the presence of the fungus can indicate the possibility or serious structural damage. When left untreated, mold can begin to impact the health of residents. Scott Safadi of Cal Bay Property Management advises landlords to watch out for these mold red flags:
A Lingering, Musty Odor Moisture is a natural part of life, but mold thrives on its presence. That's why it's so important to ensure your apartment or house is properly ventilated. If a bathroom, kitchen or basement has a lingering, musty odor, you may have a mold problem lying in wait. Tenants Report Illness Mold issues can cause all sorts of health problems for residents. Tenants may experience nosebleeds, respiratory problems, headaches, and flu-like symptoms. While it can be difficult to separate these symptoms from the common cold, they are often indicative of a serious mold problem. Mold Spores on the Walls While it may seem obvious, the presence of mold on walls is the reddest flag of them all. Unfortunately, many people dismiss the warning signs and fail to realize that visible mold spores indicate a much bigger problem than usual. Visible mold is usually the tip of the iceberg - and your cue to call a mold remediation company. -- Scott Safadi, Cal Bay Property Management
