The American beer scene has evolved tremendously in the last decade. The 2010s will always be remembered for the rise of craft beer and the invention of new, exciting flavor profiles. With a new decade dawning, it's worth considering the ways the beer scene will continue to grow and change in the 2020s. Here are three trends we anticipate making waves this year:
Fruited Sours The latter half of the 2010s beer scene was dominated by a single style: the IPA. While this beloved beer isn't going anywhere in the 2020s, consumer tastes are shifting towards fruited sour brews. Tart acidity helps sours stand out from the pack, but fruit flavors help balance out the profile for a truly unique and highly drinkable beer. Crisp and refreshing, fruited sours will only continue to gain popularity in the coming year. Fresh Hop Brews Americans are more tuned into the ingredients in their food and booze than at any other time in history. As a result, we're eager for the freshest possible ingredients. Hop acreage in the United States has increased 80 percent since 2012, so there's plenty of good stuff to go around. Be on the lookout for an emphasis on fresh, locally-grown hops in 2020 beers. Atmospheric Taprooms Once upon a time, a basic bar and a few stools were all that was necessary for a successful taproom. Now, atmospheric, experiential taprooms are raising the bar and consumer expectations. You'll still find brewery staples like cornhole and trivia nights, but expect to see an increasing amount of craft nights, open mics and beer club meetings at your local taproom in the 2020s. -- Scott Safadi, Shared Palate LLC

Now that we're well and truly into the new year, it's time to start bringing our homes and apartments up to date. If you're hoping to imbue 2020 with a modern, stylish essence, you've got to stay on top of the latest home decor trends. Scott Safadi of Cal Bay Property Management recommends giving these fun trends a try:
Give Your Bathroom a Spa Transformation Self-care is trendier than ever, and that extends to your home. Introduce spa elements to your bathroom to maximize your relaxation! Add a bench or stool to your master bath. It's a simple way to make your bathroom feel more luxurious, and you can use the added counter space as storage for your cosmetics! Mix the Old with the New Layering elements of history and modern decor is perhaps the hottest decor trend for 2020. Your apartment should tell the story of who you are and how your family came to be. With that in mind, showcase your favorite souvenirs from vacation alongside family heirlooms and antique pieces. The combination will lend a chic, sophisticated air to your living space! Embrace Temporary Wallpaper After many decades of shunning, wallpaper has made its way back into the collective consciousness over the last few years. Now, temporary wallpaper options make this trend easier than ever to try! Renters can experiment with fun patterns and prints without doing damage to their apartments. Still, it's a good idea to patch test a small section before committing to the project. -- Scott Safadi, Cal Bay Property Management Mold is an incredibly common problem in homes and apartments. While not always dangerous, the presence of the fungus can indicate the possibility or serious structural damage. When left untreated, mold can begin to impact the health of residents. Scott Safadi of Cal Bay Property Management advises landlords to watch out for these mold red flags:
A Lingering, Musty Odor Moisture is a natural part of life, but mold thrives on its presence. That's why it's so important to ensure your apartment or house is properly ventilated. If a bathroom, kitchen or basement has a lingering, musty odor, you may have a mold problem lying in wait. Tenants Report Illness Mold issues can cause all sorts of health problems for residents. Tenants may experience nosebleeds, respiratory problems, headaches, and flu-like symptoms. While it can be difficult to separate these symptoms from the common cold, they are often indicative of a serious mold problem. Mold Spores on the Walls While it may seem obvious, the presence of mold on walls is the reddest flag of them all. Unfortunately, many people dismiss the warning signs and fail to realize that visible mold spores indicate a much bigger problem than usual. Visible mold is usually the tip of the iceberg - and your cue to call a mold remediation company. -- Scott Safadi, Cal Bay Property Management |
